Since the dawn of time, the Earthly plane has been more than just the native soil of humanity. It is a reservoir of energy for the other resident planes. Unfortunately, humans, like parasites, have tainted these energies. By consuming this foul energy, the planes began a slow transformation known as the "Hell." Peaceful creatures living peacefully were twisted into hideous monstrosities, aberrations of what they once were.
Ignoring the damage caused, humanity continued its daily routine of corruption. However, the entities of Hell quickly found a way to cross the barrier separating them from the Earthly plane. They corrupted powers and governments, and created cults to be obeyed without question. The cults, through their Adepts acting in secret, waged an occult war that shaped the rise and fall of Empires and Kingdoms. Only one of the Nine Circles tried to help humanity, but its messenger, known in history as Jesus Christ, was unable to succeed in his mission.
