Shiver is a multi-genre horror roleplaying game that pays homage to classic horror films and series: slasher flicks in the style of Friday the 13th, psychological horror, retro fantasy à la Stranger Things, Lovecraftian cosmic horror, as well as gothic tales and horror science fiction.
The core rulebook offers a generic, flexible system designed to adapt to any era or horror subgenre: play quick, intense one-shots, or chain sessions together like so many "installments" of the same franchise, in the manner of a film saga.
A noise in the basement. A figure at the end of the hallway. A call that should never have come through... With Shiver, invent and live your own tales of terror with friends. Explore the unknown, uncover dark secrets, and try to survive when everything falls apart.
Teenagers chased by a killer, hunters of supernatural creatures, or scientists trapped on a hostile planet: choose your era, your setting, and your way of feeling the chill. Shiver gives you the tools to move from unsettling mystery to a desperate struggle against horror.
Its accessible rules rely on symbol dice that prioritize action and narrative. But beware the Doom Clock: certain failures and certain decisions move its hand forward, triggering ever more unsettling events. What will happen when it strikes midnight? The Doom Clock is the central tension mechanic, driven by the Game Master, which raises the stakes as the game progresses and triggers increasingly dangerous events.
