Restless Spirits: Deluxe Edition invites players to take on the role of Spirit Guides tasked with helping lost creatures—yokai, fairies, or djinns—find their way back to the spirit realm. Each player’s goal is to be the first to guide five spirits to the afterlife by attracting Light or Shadow spirits to their board, whose temporary abilities influence the course of the game.
What sets this Deluxe Edition apart is its premium content: a brand-new mini-expansion, *Leechling Invasion*; wooden components, including a Torii gate; a microfiber game mat; and tarot-sized cards showcasing detailed illustrations of each spirit.
On their turn, a player chooses to summon a new spirit—whether of Light or Shadow—from those available to their board and immediately benefits from its one-time special ability as long as the spirit remains in their possession. Each Spirit card displays three Totem symbols that must be collected by drawing and combining the appropriate Totem cards.
Once the three totems have been gathered, the spirit can be freed: Light spirits then grant the player a Blessing card, while Shadow spirits allow the player to inflict a Curse on an opponent of their choice. A story mode also features scenarios drawn from the storybook, which modify certain rules to refresh the experience with every game.
The game ends as soon as a player manages to free their fifth spirit, whether it is a creature of Light or Shadow. Since each Spiritual Guide has a particular affinity for a certain type of spirit, players who specialize in their preferred domain often progress more quickly toward this goal—though this does not guarantee victory against the Blessings and Curses accumulated by their opponents throughout the game.
The first player to free five spirits wins the game and becomes the most accomplished Spiritual Guide at the table.
