In the Inori Valley, villages are built under a huge sacred tree in which spirits live. Throughout the year, village chiefs make offerings to the spirits and erect altars in the hope of becoming the Guardian of the Great Tree for the following year.
During each of the 4 seasons of the game, players place their Offering markers on the Spirit cards or altars of the Great Tree. This enables them to activate abilities, gain victory points and receive Favor tokens.
At the end of a season, Spirit cards whose slots have all been filled earn additional points and are replaced by new cards, offering further possibilities.
At the end of the game, it's the offerings placed on the tree and their color that earn points, depending on which players have the most favors of each color.
The next year's guardian is the player with the highest score.
