Crimes is a historical role-playing game set in the Belle Époque and rooted in the tradition of 19th-century classic, fantasy, and horror literature. In Crimes, this era is experienced by its characters as particularly painful: between anti-Semitism, colonial exploitation, and the excesses of industrial society, not to mention the warmongering that plagues the world, the sirens of a decadent universe inexorably draw humanity toward its ruin.
Crime is the central theme of this game, whose founding principle is “Decadence”: according to this law, anyone responsible for a criminal act, whether a person, a society, or a civilization, must pay the price through progressive decadence. Thus, the passions and deviances of the characters lead them inexorably towards their own hell: physical degeneration, madness, or other curses. Essential for mastering Crimes, the Criminal's Handbook reveals the secrets of Paris and the mysteries that will allow you to explore different horror settings and create your own scenarios.
This book includes:
- Six horror genres will give you the keys to creating a masterful atmosphere and the codes of horror.
- A description of Paris, delving deeper into the themes of the Investigator's Handbook through the dark side of the City of Light, will introduce you to the occult societies and factions that your players' characters may encounter.
- The secrets of Crimes and Decadence, as well as the management of madness, will give your plots a whole new dimension;
- Tips for game masters will reveal numerous staging tricks to help you master different styles, but also to create your own scenarios and campaigns;
- Les âmes reptiles (Reptilian Souls), a three-scenario campaign will plunge your players' characters into themes of the quest for omnipotence and the delusions of the race, confronting them with the darkest side of humanity.
