A match of Twisted Cryptids plays out over five rounds structured into three distinct daily phases:
- Dawn Phase: Players trigger chaotic wilderness events, introducing new hikers, research teams, and environmental hazards onto the board.
- Day Phase: Monsters spend action points to navigate through the trees, plant clever decoys, set up elusive hoaxes, and slip into hiding spots.
- Dusk Phase: The scoring phase where human sightings resolve. Cryptids spotted under specific sighting rules harvest Myth points based on where humans look.
