Chaos: The Card Game, the asymmetric lane-battling card game
Chaos: The Card Game is an asymmetric, fast-paced card game, designed by Andrea Chiarvesio, illustrated by Giovanni Meroni and published by Thirdway Industries. For 2 to 4 players, it features four absurd factions clashing in a ridiculous world to claim the legendary Forbidden Fruit. Each faction has its own playstyle, and the game is built on a "lane battler" system where hidden "Chaos Values" can turn the tide of a clash.
Setup and playing a game of Chaos: The Card Game
Each player chooses a faction deck, shuffles it and draws five cards. They then place three face-down across three lanes: left, centre and right. Cards are revealed one by one, triggering immediate effects (moving cards, discarding…). Clashes are resolved by comparing the base value of the cards in each lane: the side lanes are resolved first, then the centre lane. A key subtlety: winning both side lanes forces you to use your centre card's "Chaos Value" — often much higher — allowing a weak card to flip the script.
End of game and victory conditions of Chaos: The Card Game
Winning the central clash grants the Forbidden Fruit token. You can win in several ways: by progression (winning several rounds to "consume" the fruit), by a "Chaos" win (a win achieved via a Chaos Value counts double and speeds up progression), or by survival (being the last player with cards remaining). Since cards do not return from the discard pile, games move quickly toward a decisive outcome, for short and aggressive rounds.
