June 6, 1944, was only the beginning. Operation Overlord is a deep strategic wargame that puts you in command of Allied or German forces during the three critical months following the D-Day landings. Here, victory is not decided by a tactical roll of the dice, but by mastery of the art of operations: timing, logistics, and command structure. Will you be able to break through the Atlantic Wall, or will you, as the defender, succeed in turning Normandy into a strategic stalemate?
Each month begins with a crucial planning phase: the Allies secretly plan their special operations, while the Germans designate their Festungen (fortresses) to be held at all costs. The game uses a block system to maintain total fog of war: a division’s actual strength is only revealed at the moment of impact, creating constant psychological tension and rewarding players capable of bluffing or anticipating their opponent’s intentions.
In Operation Overlord, time is a more precious resource than territory. The German player knows he will likely not drive the Allies back into the sea, but every week of delay imposed on SHAEF has major historical repercussions on morale and other fronts. The system incorporates the management of supply networks, the arrival of reinforcements, and the influence of event cards to simulate the political and technological uncertainties of 1944.
