Franklin 1864

Description

Relive the battles of Spring Hill and Franklin in 1864.

The Battle of Spring Hill was a trap set by Confederate General Hood in his advance on Nashville, trying to trap part of the Army of the Ohio under Union General Schofield. This historic battle did not turn out as Hood had hoped, with the Union forces escaping to Franklin relatively unscathed.

The Battle of Franklin, on the following day, November 30, was Hood's last stand as he attempted to catch the Union forces from the rear, with their bridges damaged. Lack of time, artillery and planning led to a crushing Confederate defeat, with 14 Confederate generals killed and 55 regimental commanders. The battle was very close, as a Union deployment error almost gave Hood the victory he so desperately sought.

The two battles can be fought separately, or combined to repeat the two days together in a linked mini-campaign.

Players command either the Confederate or Union army, and fight to destroy opposing forces and capture key objectives on the ground to determine victory.
