Stubborn Sheep

Description

Stubborn Sheep: Herding Unruly Sheep to the Barn

Players take on the role of shepherds in the Scottish Highlands during shearing season, trying to herd scattered sheep back to their own barns. The goal is to gather groups of sheep with the same wool color to score points, while managing four breeds, each with distinct and decidedly “stubborn” behaviors: some drag a fellow sheep along with them as they move, while others drive out a sheep already present in a field.

The game’s originality lies in its fencing system: each card placed can trigger a chain reaction by also activating fences already in place—including an opponent’s—making every turn as unpredictable as it is strategic.

A fence placed, a chain reaction triggered

Setup places the sheep in shared fields arranged in a circle around the table, with each player starting with two fences in front of them and their own empty pen.

On their turn, a player places a Fence card on top of an existing fence—either their own or an opponent’s—and then immediately activates the arrows shown on the card to move the sheep of the indicated colors to the left or right. They then activate all their own fences that haven’t been used yet this turn, which can trigger a series of movements before the next turn begins.

Complete Flocks to Win the Shearing

Sheep that end up in a player’s barn allow them to form sets of the same color, each earning points and sometimes a small bonus that can be used in subsequent rounds. For added difficulty, a Wolf variant can be added: this threat lurks in the Highlands and steals sheep from the fields, reducing the resources available to all players.

The game ends once the available sheep are exhausted or a set number of turns has been reached, and the player who has formed the most valuable sets in their barn wins the game.
