Council of Serpents - Wealth and Wine Expansion

Description

Council of Serpents: Wealth and Wine—Decadence Takes Hold of the Council

Council of Serpents: Wealth and Wine introduces the House of Myr, a modular house that replaces one of the three houses from the core game to offer new asymmetric confrontations. Rather than resorting to force, House Myr favors lavish feasts and the seduction of the populace to upset the balance of power through economic and social means.

The originality of this expansion lies in its theme of medieval decadence, which manifests through new Opportunity cards played in the center of the table—affecting all houses in play simultaneously—and the arrival of a devious guild, the Troupe of Charlatans, whose allegiance shifts depending on the circumstances.

A House to Replace, Guilds to Win Over

To incorporate Wealth and Wine into a game, players replace one of the houses from the core game—for example, House Rowel—with the specific board and deck for House Myr, thereby losing access to certain original cards such as Trade Agreements or Healers in favor of mechanics unique to Myr.

The Advisor expansion further enriches the game by adding an extra layer of strategy, while three new types of Influence cards expand the manipulation possibilities already offered by the core game. Opportunity cards, such as the Wealth Distribution card, occasionally disrupt the economic balance of all the houses, forcing each player to rethink their strategy mid-game.

The popularity of guilds: the game’s new deciding factor

The new Planning card, “Celebrate the Guilds,” introduces a brand-new mechanism that directly rewards players who have invested in alliances with guilds: once resolved, each house gains one Popularity point for every guild currently supporting it. This card can thus rapidly tip the balance of the Houses toward the triumph or collapse sought by certain players, without altering the fundamental victory conditions of the core game.

The game continues to end as soon as a House reaches the top or bottom of one of its attribute tracks, but the guilds and opportunities in Wealth and Wine now offer additional ways to hasten or delay this outcome.
