Re-Chord, the area control game themed around the guitar
Re-Chord is an area control and pattern-building game published by Yanaguana Games (distributed by Atlas Games) and designed by Marshall Britt. Its originality: players use real guitar picks on a neoprene fretboard, and the Chord cards depict actual guitar chords (real finger positions), bringing a musical educational dimension to a board game. The goal: become the most popular guitarist by accumulating Popularity (Fame), while keeping your pick colour secret for as long as possible.
How to play Re-Chord
On their turn, each player drafts a pick (from the public draft pile or blindly from the bag) and places it on a specific string and fret of the fretboard. Each pick colour has a unique special power (moving, removing or swapping picks), allowing players to disrupt their opponents' strategy. Players score points by holding the majority of picks of their colour on a given fret, and by completing the patterns on Chord cards when the placed picks match a real guitar chord. Song cards provide secondary scoring objectives, set against a backdrop of parody band names.
End of game and scoring in Re-Chord
The game ends when the first four frets of the fretboard are completely covered with picks. Players then reveal their secret colour, and a final count awards the last area-control points. The player with the most Popularity is declared the legendary guitarist and wins the game.
