Belote is played with a deck of 32 cards. The four players, divided into two teams, receive 8 cards each. The team that "takes" must reach a minimum of 82 points to win a round (excluding belote-rebelote). This is called a "contract".
The team that reaches at least 501 points first wins the game. If both teams manage to reach more than 501 points, the team with the highest score wins the game. A round consists of 8 rounds, in which each player plays a card each time. The player who wins the round plays the first card of the next round and so on.
Scores are calculated for each team. The points of each card won by the team are added up. The last trick is worth 10 extra points: it is called the "10 of der."
