Created by Matt Leacock and released for the first time in 2008, this game met with immediate worldwide success. The multiple re-releases and the plethora of expansions over the last ten years attest to this.
Today, Pandemic no longer evokes just one game, but a complete range of some fifteen games.
The various games in the collection have been awarded several times with prizes such as the Tric Trac d'Argent in 2008 and the BoardGameGeek Award for Best Family Game in 2009 for the basic game and the As d’Or Grand Prix in 2016 for its Legacy version.
Pandemic is a cooperative game. Players do not oppose each other, but all face the game itself together with the goal of completing a common mission.
In Pandemic, players incarnate a team of scientists fighting body and soul against deadly diseases around the world. Each player plays a key character in this race against time to stop the dangerous spread. To achieve this, players need to work together and pool their individual skills and resources.
While the theme is not glamorous at first glance, the game has managed to develop into a thrilling experience where every second counts. From the very first minutes of the game, players are immersed in a pressing context. Hatching, spreading, disease or eradication are all part of the players' vocabulary and set the rhythm of each game.
Seven roles are available in the basic game: the contingency planner, the medic, the operations expert, the quarantine specialist, the researcher, the dispatcher and the scientist. And other characters appear throughout the expansions (In Vitro, On the brink, State of emergency, etc.).
The Pandemic range includes a Legacy version of the game. In this special version, the originality is not so much in the rules, which does not evolve much in the whole, but in the way of playing. Pandemic Legacy remains a cooperative board game, but is now played in a 12-scenario campaign. The game then becomes a unique and exciting experience where every detail can have a more or less direct and immediate impact on the fate of humanity.
In this version, players are required to modify the game's material as the game progresses. For example, if a character dies during the mission, his map is destroyed. This Legacy dimension enhances the game experience, where the sensations are multiplied tenfold.
