Fantastique, the card game of fans to collect
Fantastique is a card game published by Amigo, designed by Trevor Benjamin and Brett J. Gilbert, and illustrated by Miriam Rowe. Its originality: trapezoid-shaped cards that, once combined, form a beautiful "fan." The game blends bidding, set collection, and hand optimisation, over seven rounds, at the end of which a final objective (the "Grande Finale") determines bonus points.
How to play Fantastique
Each round, the central cards are revealed and grouped into piles by value. Players then play one or more cards of the same value from their hand, without being able to exactly replicate a fan already played by an opponent. Whoever played the most cards wins the gold medal, the second-most wins silver (ties are broken by the higher card value). In reverse order of their bidding "strength," players then draft one of the central piles to enrich and optimise their hand for upcoming rounds.
End of game and scoring in Fantastique
After seven rounds, the game ends: players compare their final hand against the requirements of the Grande Finale card, revealed at the start of the game, to earn bonus points. Adding up medals won and this final bonus, the player with the highest score wins the game.
