Monikers, the party game of clues, words and charades
Monikers is a party game published by CMYK, designed by Alex Hague and Justin Vickers. It is based on the classic "Celebrities" (or "hat game") concept: two teams compete to guess as many names as possible — characters, celebrities, objects or memes — within a time limit. Its originality lies in its three successive rounds, using the same deck of cards, with increasingly restrictive rules, and in the fact that players select the cards themselves beforehand, which creates team "inside jokes" to great effect by the third round.
How to play Monikers
At the start of the game, each player is dealt several cards and selects a few to form the shared deck for the game. The two teams then compete over three rounds, consistently using this same deck: in Round 1, you can say anything you like (except the name itself) to get the card guessed; in Round 2, you can only use one single word; in Round 3, it's pure charades, with no talking at all. Each player has 60 seconds to get their team to guess as many cards as possible, which the team then keeps.
End of game and scoring in Monikers
Once the three rounds are complete, each team tallies the number of cards guessed. The team with the most points wins the game. The game contains cards with occasionally mature content, marked with an icon, which can be removed before playing with a more sensitive audience.
