Invincible: The Hero-Building Game Season 2, the First Expansion for the Super-Hero Bag-Builder
Invincible: The Hero-Building Game Season 2 is a cooperative expansion designed by Kevin Spak for publisher Dire Wolf, in partnership with Skybound Tabletop. It requires the base game, Invincible: The Hero-Building Game, to play. Players take on the roles of super-heroes from the Invincible animated series, facing new threats from beneath the ocean, outer space, and other dimensions. Its originality lies in its real-time combat system with no fixed turn order: each player acts whenever they're ready, pulling power cubes from a bag to resolve their actions.
Setup and Gameplay
The expansion adds four new playable heroes, Dupli-Kate, Shrinking Rae, Monster Girl, and Black Samson, which can be freely combined with the base game's heroes (Invincible, Atom Eve, Rex Splode, and Robot). It also introduces six new episodes, playable as a continuous campaign or mixed with those from the base game, along with new mechanics: Fuel tokens to power up abilities, Weaken tokens used by villains to hinder heroes, and Falter Cubes that permanently pollute the power bag.
Win Conditions and End of Game
As in the base game, each episode sets its own win and loss conditions, generally tied to defeating a main villain, such as the multidimensional Angstrom Levy, before a damage threshold or turn limit is exceeded by the hero team. The campaign concludes after playing through the six new episodes, which can also be woven into the base game's progression.
