Iona Abbey is famous for its prestigious manuscripts, richly decorated with gold leaf and remarkable calligraphy. Indeed, thanks to your talent and discipline, you have joined their ranks as a master illuminator!
In Inkwell, each player can either draw resources from a shared mat or choose to score points and move on to a new page in their own codex. Resources include colored ink cubes, gold leaf, and “technique” cards with special powers and effects.
Everything you take must fit on your manuscript card, and if you empty the last inkwell of a certain type, the abbot advances the game clock toward the end of the game. If you choose to turn the page, you score points for all your completed work and set your ability cards aside to use for the rest of the game, thereby building a “engine” of acquired skills.
You also receive a reward in the form of a gold leaf and have the option to choose which page you’ll work on next. Be careful, though: if the abbot gets angry, he can force you to move on to the next page before you’re finished.
