Model’s Counterattack Warsaw 1944
Eastern Front, Summer 1944: Soviet forces launch a major offensive, codenamed BAGRATION, which destroys a large portion of the German army positioned in the central sector. The Soviets advance as far as the Vistula River, reaching the outskirts of Warsaw. General Model, by rallying some relatively intact forces and counterattacking from various directions, manages to halt the offensive, at least temporarily. All this occurs as Warsaw rises up, and, a little further south in Magnuszew, other Soviet forces succeed in crossing to the western side of the Vistula, creating a dangerous bridgehead...
The players alternate, during each round of the game, according to a scheme that tries to trace the main operational differences existing between the two armies; the Soviet player activates (or rather moves and fights), whole formations, in this case army corps; MODEL’S COUNTERATTACK the German player, thanks to the operational flexibility that the Wehrmacht still had at this time, can activate in the same phase, any unit(s) on the field, even belonging to different formations, as long as it has not already been activated. The following sequence of phases constitutes a game turn and is repeated until the last turn has been played or decisive victory conditions have been met.
