Field of Honor - Shock Tactics is an expansion for the strategy game Field of Honor, designed to be used with the base game for two players or two teams of two. The objective remains to control key locations on the battlefield by placing your control markers before your opponent, using pieces drawn at random from your personal bag.
This expansion introduces the “Demoralize” keyword: certain units can now remove all opposing pieces from a single space on the board in one go, without this being considered a standard attack. The affected pieces return to their owner’s discard pile rather than being eliminated, forcing the player to redeploy an entire unit from the bag. The originality of Shock Tactics lies in this disruptive effect, which upends positions previously considered untouchable.
The expansion adds four new units to the core game—the War Drum, the Pitch Thrower, the Marauder, and the Rear Guard—as well as three alternative profiles for existing units: Heavy Cavalry, Vanguard, and Warlord. These new pieces and cards are added to the shared pool during setup, alongside those from the core game and other compatible expansions such as Nobility, Siege, or Treachery.
The flow of a turn remains identical to that of Field of Honor: each player draws three pieces from their bag, then, in turn, plays a token to deploy a unit, perform a maneuver, recruit a new piece, or attempt to demoralize an enemy position. Fortified units, introduced by the Siege expansion, remain protected against this demoralization effect.
The game ends, as in the core game, when a player or team succeeds in placing all of their control markers on key locations on the board. The demoralization effects introduced by Shock Tactics do not lead to an immediate victory, but they shift the balance of power by slowing the opponent’s advance and forcing them to redeploy troops from their bag.
This additional pressure may be enough to break through a previously well-held line and accelerate the capture of the final positions needed for victory. Field of Honor – Shock Tactics requires the Field of Honor base game to play.
