Speculaas are spiced shortbread cookies from the Netherlands and Belgium, molded into various shapes, usually representing windmills, boats, and animals. The spice mixture consists of cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, ginger, nutmeg, and white pepper.

In Speculaas, players take on the role of bakers trying to score as many victory points as possible by collecting Spice cards and combining them with Recipe cards (which earn points).
