Gob Attaque!: a chaotic card game set in an overrun school of magic
Gob Attaque! is a chaotic survival card game designed by Alexandre Martinez and Eric Bondar, illustrated by Donnie Toyxic, published by Les Editions Dame Fortune and distributed by Ludistri. The story takes place in a school of magic overrun by a horde of goblins after a failed spell: players take on the role of mages who must use their spells to protect themselves from the creatures and, above all, redirect them toward their rivals. The game's originality lies in its strong interaction and constant reversals of fortune: at any moment, a player can turn a seemingly safe rival into the Gobs' next designated victim, in a gleefully dirty-tricks atmosphere.
Setup and gameplay of a round in Gob Attaque!
Setup involves shuffling the Spell deck and the Gob deck separately, then dealing five Spell cards to each player, with the rest of both decks forming the central draw piles. On their turn, the active player first draws a Spell card, respecting a seven-card hand limit, then must draw a Gob card and place it face up in front of them, immediately applying its effect if it has one. They can then play as many Spell cards as they wish, either to manage the Gobs piling up in front of them or to directly harm their rivals by sending their own creatures their way.
Victory conditions and end of game in Gob Attaque!
The game continues as long as several mages remain alive, with unmanaged Gobs gradually endangering players who accumulate too many in front of them. Thanks to spells, each player can protect themselves, strike back, or redirect the threat toward a rival, causing frequent and unpredictable shifts in fortune. The last mage still alive at the end of these chaotic exchanges wins the game.
