Traveling barbers in pursuit of the Medicus title
Medico immerses players in medieval Europe, at a time when trained physicians were rare. Each player takes on the role of a traveling barber journeying from town to town to treat the sick, study in monastery libraries, and gather rare remedies. The ultimate goal is to accumulate enough knowledge and prestige to earn the professional title of Medicus.
Medico plays over a limited number of rounds (8 or 9 depending on the player count), making every decision critical.
Simultaneous selection and route optimization
Medico is built on simultaneous action selection: each round, players secretly choose one of seven possible destinations on a dial, then reveal their choice at the same time. As they move toward their destination, they can perform secondary actions at the waypoints they pass, rewarding careful route planning. Players gain Knowledge tokens from the Medicus to unlock permanent abilities, and build up Prestige by currying favor with the clergy or nobility, also useful for breaking ties or earning extra actions.
True to Stefan Feld's "point salad" style, Medico offers many scoring paths while adding an interactive dimension through simultaneous selection and the prestige duel system. Its eight-part modular board ensures a different geography and optimal routes every game.
