Mango Bango is a risk-taking card game that plunges players into a colorful world of tropical fruits, where each player must flip over cards to build stacks of value—without ever knowing in advance whether the next card drawn will add to their harvest or cause it to collapse all at once.
The goal is to accumulate as many points as possible by collecting stacks of cards before “busting”—that is, drawing a card that cannot be placed according to the rules. The game’s originality lies in its strict limit of three stacks in play at any given time, with each stack unable to contain the same number or the same color twice—a rule that turns every draw into a real dilemma between caution and greed.
To set up the game, shuffle all the cards to form a face-down communal draw pile in the center of the table. On their turn, the active player turns over the cards one by one and must place them in one of the three available piles, adhering to the rule that no two cards in the same pile can have the same value or color.
When a “Roll” card is drawn, the player rolls the special die to trigger an effect; only one such card is allowed per pile. Later in the game, each player may also choose to set aside certain cards from their personal hand by turning them face down to permanently secure the points they represent.
The active player may choose at any time to stop and collect one of the stacks they’ve built—usually the one with the most valuable cards—or continue drawing in hopes of making it even more valuable.
If they draw a card that cannot be placed in any of the three piles, they immediately “skip” their turn and forfeit the benefit of that turn. The game ends when the draw pile is exhausted and all the piles have been claimed by the players: the player with the highest total score—combining cards in their reserve and claimed cards—wins the game.
