A game of The Dawn of Pangaea - Deluxe Edition is played on a modular board made of sixteen biome tiles, assembled at the start of the game. Each player receives a spirit, seeds, and young wooden trees, then chooses two actions per turn from those available: planting, growing their forest, moving, or summoning one of the three ancient guardians. Weather tokens affect the biomes and change growing conditions over the course of the game. Players perform rituals to move their marker up the ten-level sacred mountain, a centerpiece of the Deluxe Edition.
A game of The Dawn of Pangaea - Deluxe Edition ends when a player reaches the top of the sacred mountain through points earned from their rituals. The game also includes a solo and cooperative mode, in which players face a blight represented by scourge markers and a shadow meeple, guided by the rules on the included moon board. This alternate mode allows the difficulty of the game to be adjusted to the experience being sought.
