Wild Woods is the first expansion for The Dawn of Pangaea, designed by Thomas Franken and published by Treecer. It introduces a new axis of play: height. With twenty-four wooden treetops, players can now grow their trees upward instead of only expanding horizontally across the board, opening new possibilities for planting seeds at a distance and reinforcing area control. The expansion also introduces elemental storm cards, adding unpredictable weather events to manage during the game. This new strategic dimension adds to the existing mechanics of The Dawn of Pangaea without significantly increasing the complexity of the rules.
To play with Wild Woods, each player uses one of the four dual-layered player boards included in the expansion, which replace the base game boards and make it easier to track tree height progression and the new resources. The twenty additional terrain tiles enrich the modular board of the supercontinent, while the twelve extra wooden seeds and elemental storm cards integrate into the usual phases of The Dawn of Pangaea: planting, growing your forest, moving, or summoning an ancient guardian.
Victory conditions remain based on players progressing toward the top of the sacred mountain, but managing tree height and elemental storms introduced by Wild Woods changes how the rituals needed to get there are performed. The game ends following the same rules as the base game, with a player reaching the summit triggering the end of the game.
This expansion cannot be played without the base game.
