Steam Power

Description

Steam Power, Martin Wallace's accessible train game

Steam Power is a network-building and pick-up-and-deliver game, designed by Martin Wallace and published by Wallace Designs. Players build railway tracks, construct factories producing resources, and fulfill contracts to earn money and victory points. Its originality: a quick setup and streamlined rules, making it an accessible entry point into train games, far from the complexity of other Wallace titles like Age of Steam, while still offering real strategic depth.

How to play Steam Power

On their turn, each player performs two actions from: laying track tiles, building a factory in a city (to produce resources), fulfilling a contract, drawing Contract tiles, or taking money. Produced resources are accessible to everyone, but using an opponent's factories or tracks requires paying them. Managing your network and choosing which contracts to prioritise are at the heart of the strategy.

End of game and scoring in Steam Power

The game ends once a set number of contracts has been fulfilled, triggering the final round. Players then tally their victory points, mainly earned through fulfilled contracts and their associated bonuses. The player with the most points wins the game.
