Fate is a generic, narrative-oriented role-playing game system. Created in 2000, the original idea for the game was inspired by Fudge, another generic game. The original name, FATE, was an acronym for Fantastic Adventures in Tabletop Entertainment. Since the third edition, the game has dropped the capital letters to get away from the meaning of the acronym. In this third edition, the game also left its generic system and became part of a pulp genre.
