Spies facing a global vampire conspiracy
Night's Black Agents follows former intelligence officers, special forces operators, or criminal specialists who have been burned or left their agencies. A seemingly routine job in Europe's criminal underworld leads them to discover that their employers, or the forces opposing them, are actually vampires.
Players must use their tradecraft to dismantle the network and eliminate the threat, in a setting inspired by spy thrillers such as The Bourne Identity.
The GUMSHOE system, the Conspyramid, and modular vampires
Night's Black Agents uses Robin D. Laws's GUMSHOE system, built for investigative play: a core clue is never lost on a failed roll, as long as the character has the right ability. High general ability ratings (8+) unlock cinematic maneuvers called Cherries.
The Director maps the conspiracy using the Conspyramid, and its countermoves using the Vampyramid, while Heat tracks attention from local authorities. Vampires themselves are fully modular, built from four possible origins: supernatural, damned, alien, or mutant.
Four tones of play, for a tailored campaign
Night's Black Agents offers four play modes adjusting campaign tone: Dust (gritty and lethal), Mirrors (paranoia and betrayal), Burn (psychological horror), and Stakes (heroic monster hunting).
The game is aimed at fans of spy thrillers and modular horror, with no prior experience of the GUMSHOE system required. Major supplements such as The Dracula Dossier significantly expand the setting.
