Mutual hunt between a Beast and Investigators taking place in France in the 18th century.
It was in the year 1764 that the beast appeared on our lands and made them his own. A year later, its fame had spread beyond the borders of our province and it was beginning to look like no mortal would ever be able to defeat it. Under his assaults, the country of Gévaudan sank little by little into darkness.
To win, the Beast must kill at least 25 people before the end of the game, which runs season after season for 3 years. The Investigator(s) must either stop him or unmask him by identifying his secret identity.
Each round, a seasonal event occurs, the Beast plans its attack, the Investigator(s) move, the Beast does or does not claim victims, and finally, the Investigator(s) inspect their location.
Each investigator specializes in one of the Beast's identities: for example, the Bishop of Mende will know how to identify a demon, while the King's Envoy will more easily find out if the culprit is human in nature.
