In Schnattergei, you must say the right words at the right time and know when to hit the deck!

To begin, deal each player a deck of 25 cards face down. The cards represent one of seven objects: banana, strawberry, elephant, cocoa, carrot, bell pepper, or Schnattergei (talkative parrot). Each item is one of four colors: yellow, red, blue or brown.

On your turn, turn over the top card of your deck by placing it on the discard pile and quickly say the item (banana, strawberry, elephant, cocoa) that matches the color of the revealed card (yellow, red, blue, brown). You never say "carrot" or "bell pepper", and when you roll a Schnattergei, you must "parrot" the previous player's card by repeating what they said, not what matches the color of the parrot. If you make a mistake, take two cards from your deck and place them under the discard pile.

When someone reveals an item that matches the one on top of the discard pile, everyone must run to slap the pile. Whoever does it first claims all the cards in the discard pile and places them under their deck, face down.

The game ends when a player runs out of cards and fails to win the discard pile in the same turn. Whoever has the most cards at the end of the game wins.
