Auf Der Hut

Find the hat that matches the princess, the pirate, the gardener, etc.

In Auf Der Hut, you have to pay attention to what other people are doing in order to spot the right hats on the right people.

To begin, shuffle the character deck and the hat deck separately, then lay out a row of seven characters face up (princess, jester, knight, witch, etc.) with a hat card face down above each character. During a turn, perform one of the following three actions:

•         Take a look at a hat card, then put it back.
•         Swap two hat cards without looking at them.
•         Reveal a hat card that you think matches the character below it. Is the cowboy hat on the cowboy's head, the Viking helmet on the Viking, or more generally, did you make a match? Great! Take that character and his hat, place them in front of you, then draw a new character from the deck and place a hat card face down on top of him. If you revealed any of the four miracle hats, then you made a match, but you only claim the miracle hat, replacing it with a face-down hat card. If you failed to make a match, you turn the hat card face down and take a bald head card as a penalty.

When you can no longer fill a space in the display, the game ends. For every bald head you have, you must cover a hat on a character you've collected - but for every miracle hat you have, you can adorn someone who has been struck with instant hair loss. Whoever collects the most hats wins!
