Rotation Rumble: Clubs & Critters

Description

Rotation Rumble: Clubs & Critters, Two Decks for a Rotating Card Duel

Rotation Rumble: Clubs & Critters is a two-player card battle game in which each player takes on the role of a guild trainer leading their mercenaries into battle. The goal is to accumulate victory points by winning successive battles against your opponent. The core mechanic revolves around rotating square cards: each side offers a different action, requiring players to anticipate the best orientation for their fighters depending on the stage of the game.

The game’s universe features battles fought for money, glory, and—with a playful nod—slices of cheesecake. This Clubs & Critters set offers two decks with opposing playstyles: Moxuthl, which relies on animals enhanced by synergy effects, and Umberto, who uses his mercenaries’ equipment to accumulate bonuses throughout the game. This contrast between raw animal power and equipment-based optimization is the set’s main unique feature.

Buffs, Equipment, and Combos

Setup involves choosing one of the two decks—Moxuthl or Umberto—and then arranging your play area with your mercenary cards and support cards. On their turn, a player engages or rotates their cards to activate the action corresponding to their orientation—whether that’s attacking, defending, or strengthening a unit already in play.

The Moxuthl deck encourages players to stack synergy effects on their creatures to make them increasingly powerful, while the Umberto deck encourages players to gradually equip their mercenaries to accumulate item bonuses over the course of the game. The game’s compact format and small number of cards allow for quick, back-to-back turns.

Victory Points and the Outcome of the Mercenary Battle

The game ends when one of the two players reaches the number of victory points needed to win, achieved by winning successive rumbles or by exploiting the synergies specific to their deck.

With Moxuthl, stacking buffs on a few key creatures allows you to force a decision late in the game, while with Umberto, the variety of accumulated gear provides more consistent progression. Since all decks in the Rotation Rumble series are compatible with one another, Clubs & Critters can also be combined with other sets to vary endgame scenarios.
