Rotation Rumble: Goblins & Glaciers

Description

Rotation Rumble: Goblins & Glaciers, Two Decks for a Rotation Card Duel

Rotation Rumble: Goblins & Glaciers is a two-player card battle game in which each player takes on the role of a guild trainer leading their mercenaries into battle. The goal is to accumulate victory points by winning successive battles against your opponent. The core mechanic revolves around rotating square cards: each side offers a different action, requiring players to anticipate the best orientation for their fighters depending on the stage of the game. The game’s universe features battles fought for money, glory, and—with a playful nod—slices of cheesecake.

This Goblins & Glaciers set features two decks with contrasting playstyles: Urdanxi, which relies on a constant back-and-forth of goblins to trigger its captain’s abilities, and Samorra, which uses discarding and equipment recovery to strengthen its mercenaries at a lower cost. This contrast between offensive mobility and resource optimization is the set’s main point of originality.

Mobility, Discarding, and Combos

Setup involves choosing one of the two decks—Urdanxi or Samorra—and then arranging your play area with your mercenary cards and support cards. On their turn, a player engages or rotates their cards to activate the action corresponding to their orientation—whether that’s attacking, defending, or bringing a mercenary into or out of the combat zone. The Urdanxi deck encourages players to rotate their goblins frequently to trigger abilities more often, while the Samorra deck encourages players to discard expensive items so they can later retrieve and equip them at a lower cost. The game’s compact format and small number of cards allow for quick, back-to-back turns.

Victory Points and the Outcome of the Mercenary Battle

The game ends when one of the two players reaches the number of victory points needed to win, achieved by winning successive rumbles or by exploiting their deck’s unique synergies.

With Urdanxi, the frequent rotation of goblins allows for steady point accumulation, while with Samorra, reclaiming expensive equipment can turn the game around in just a few turns. Since all decks in the Rotation Rumble series are compatible with one another, Goblins & Glaciers can also be combined with other sets to vary endgame scenarios.
